Hooray for the...

Pacifier!

We were trying to be sparing in our use of the pacifier (or "binky" - do we have to use that word?). Then, a friend's mom gave it to Owen in the middle of the day this week and he sat happily in her lap - awake and NOT crying - for almost an hour. I'm a believer. Over the last 2 weeks, we haven't been able to set him down for more than 60 seconds without him screaming (unless he was dead asleep). Now, he will chill in his crib, look at toys, listen to a story, or track faces. On Wednesday night, I spent 10 minutes in the kitchen prepping dinner while the baby was AWAKE.

I think it's so important for him to be able to self entertain a little bit, but I had no idea how we would get there with the constant crying. Now I get it. This kid just needs something in his moth and hands to feel secure. I think he even smiled twice yesterday...

Glad you found 'just the thing'. Several folks warned us against using a pacifier - and w/David we almost didn't. Then, at a month & a half we caved, and... we're believers too. We used one from the start with Hannah. Weaning them of it was easy for both of them (we did it when they approached the one-year mark).

Thanks Mike - that's just what we needed to hear. Sounds like our experience is just like yours with David.

I WISH Luke would take one, we have tried three and he just gags and licks it. I know he would love it if he just accepted it!
